Social Model of Intersex
People with intersex variations, previously termed “hermaphrodites”, have always existed and historical records of their lives appear in various texts. However, in countries like Australia, intersex has not always been understood, accepted nor tolerated. Activism and advocacy from organisations such as the AISSGA have helped to reshape societal perceptions of people with intersex variations.
